Zim Schools Reopening on Monday but No School Calendar Yet

Zim schools reopening on monday but no school calendar yet. As the school reopening dates have been release on Wednesday we are now waiting for the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to release the revised school calendar soon.

The school calendar will reveal the closing dates, the duration of the term and also whether we are opening for the second or the third term.

Said Taungana Ndoro, a spokesperson in the Ministry, "The ministry executive is in communities preparing for the resumption of classes as well as encouraging everyone to come back to school. The Permanent Secretary will release the schools’ calendar possibly before the end of the week.

Yesterday, wednesday, the government announced the reopening of schools, with examination classes re-opening on 30 August 2021 and non-examination on 6 September 2021. The announcement also stated that intercity and intracity transportation for learners will be allowed.

There have been rumours that Government might consider scrapping off the second term so that learners learn continuously up to December in order to cover up for lost time. Last year the Government was also forced to cancel term two after a long layoff due to Covid-19 lockdowns.

This year schools had opened on 15 March and closed for holidays on 4 June to end the first term. The second term was supposed to start on 28 June and close on 10 September. However, schools failed for the second term as planned due to the rise in Covid-19 cases.

“I can’t comment on the issue of second term because it is up to the President but it’s true that from our initial calendar most of the days of second term have been eaten away by the lockdown,” said Mr Ndoro.
