ZCTU Sues Companies Over Forced Vaccinations

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) sues companies over forced vaccinations. In an urgent High Court filing on Friday, the ZCTU said the actions of companies such as Zimnat Insurance, the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA), TelOne, Windmill Limited, Seed Co Zimbabwe and the Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences is a violation of workers’ constitutional rights.

The ZCTU court application argues that there is no Zimbabwean law which makes vaccination compulsory and each person is expected to make a personal decision on whether or not to get vaccinated.

The law suit went on, "In the process, the aforesaid employers are infringing the fundamental rights of the affected employees protected by section 51, 52 (c), 65 (1) and 65 (4) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. Thousands of workers in Zimbabwe have been affected and thousands are more likely to be affected if this court application is not heard urgently."

The ZCTU suit comes after it surfaced that many companies are ordering their workers to get vaccinated or lose their jobs. Even some learning institutions, such as the University of Zimbabwe are also reportedly threatened to block unvaccinated learners from entering their premises. Harare Institute of Technology even went on as far as to announce that unvaccinated students wont be allowed to sit for exams.

Though vaccination remains voluntary, members of the public feel that the recent forementioned events are an indirect way of making vaccination compulsory.
