However the shocking thing about this twist of events is that the announcement comes barely 24 hours after the extension of the national level 4 lockdown. Many Zimbabweans were quick to point this out on twitter.
So what's the point of the two week lockdown announced yesterday?

Under the level 4 national lockdown intercity travel is banned, so we are still to see how only the students will be allowed intercity travel. The announcement doesn’t clarify whether their guadians will be allowed to travel too or they will be locked down.
How will they move if public transport is still banned?

Some Zimbabweans complained that the hasty reopening of schools has given them little time to prepare.
You announce a Lockdown extension then give parents just 5 days to prepare & replan their lives. Musadaro so.

We have a confused gvt. There is no proper planning. Just waking up and make decisions just like that. Just those few days of preparation honestly.

Yeah zim has the most confused government
Like honestly within a space of 24 hours you make 2 completely different decisions concerning the lockdown
Do they even consider that people would want to plan ahead
How can you be proactive with such a gvt

However it seems this decision was a direct pressure from the doctors who questioned the need for a lockdown.
Zimbabwe's senior doctors on Wednesday questioned the government's latest Covid-19 lockdown extension, calling it "unscientific" in the face of declining infections and hospitalisations, ZimLive reported.@SeniorDoctors @GeneralHospital @VPChiwenga @edmnangagwa #zimDaily pic.twitter.com/lr9019fYfK
